Lena Dunham Reveals She Cheated on Jack Antonoff Around Same Time He Developed 'Closeness' to 'Teen Pop Star,' Writes About Their Split
Lena Dunham wrote about her relationship with Jack Antonoff in her new book “Famesick,” out now.
If you don’t recall, the couple began dating in 2012 and split in 2018.

“I had never stopped flirting—I mean, I wasn’t dead yet — but I had observed careful boundaries, never taking it far enough that I could be declared out of bounds. If I’d wanted to look, perhaps I may have seen that Jack was not observing them as closely as I was,” she began (via EW). She said she ended up reaching out to a former middle school flame named Nick.
By the way, around this time, she said Jack had developed a “closeness” with a “teen pop star” and it had been “striking an odd note.”
She texted Nick one night, “with impunity, saying I’d just had major surgery and I needed to be cheered up. ‘Meet me by the bridge? Bring me a stuffed animal?’ I got an answer back in less than a minute: ‘I’m already running.’”
They began kissing when they met up, she wrote, as she “let my lips wander slowly across his face.”
“I’ve been through something awful. I don’t want to talk about it, but I need you to f— me and I need you to do all of the work,’” she said she told him. He responded, “‘I can make that happen.’”
After the got intimate, Lena says she went home to her apartment with Jack and got into bed with him.
“I tried to calm my sheer terror by telling myself I was finally home from a bad dream. I had fixed myself, proved I could be the freaky sexy lively young woman he fell in love with. I had exorcised the demon. In a way, I had f-ked Nick for both our sakes, to make our house a home again. It would all be better now,” she wrote.
The next morning, she said the breakup began. She spoke to Jack about not “making each other happy.” She added that, in this moment, “sobs overtook me.”
She says they “put our foreheads together and wept” before they split.
“‘No matter what happens,’ I said, ‘you will always be my first great love.’ ‘And you’ll be mine,’ he wept,” she recalled.
