Ben & Jerry's Giving Out Free Ice Cream Today - Here's How to Get It
While some of the country is still dealing with heavy snowfall, a heatwave broke out from Texas to New Jersey as temperatures soar into the high 80's.
It's the perfect time to cool down with a treat and Ben & Jerry's is here to deliver. The beloved ice cream giant is giving out free ice cream today, April 14, and is aiming to give away more than one million ice cream cones by the end of the day.
How to Get Free Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream
Those looking for free ice cream won't have to look too hard as scoop shop's around the country are handing out free cones. The ice cream giant has nearly 600 locations worldwide and each one will be offering free cones today, but there's a catch: it's not limited to one cone per person.
In an announcement filed earlier this morning, Ben & Jerry's told its customers to "line up at their local participating Scoop Shop and get in line as many times as they'd like."
The History of Free Cone Day
Ben & Jerry's first launched its free cone day back in 1979 in a renovated gas station as a way of thanking its customers.
In 1984 Saratoga Springs, NY became the first town outside of Vermont to host a Free Cone Day. The free offering didn't hit nationwide until 1993 when May 21 became the day to celebrate.
"Free Cone Day is all about our fans. It's our way of saying thank you with an international moment of togetherness. In 2026, our aim is to go even bigger!" Jochanan Senf, Ben & Jerry's CEO said in a statement. "We want to hand out 1 million and one free scoops of ice cream across the globe to spread a little joy on the best unofficial holiday of the year!"
