Weekend preview: Excitement in store with County Cup final and league
Royal Wootton Bassett Town are set for an exciting weekend as the Women's First Team face Swindon Town in the Wiltshire County Cup final on Sunday while the Men's First Team finish their Hellenic League Premier Division campaign with a derby visit to Fairford Town on Saturday. Sunday's final sees Bassett aiming for their second County Cup title - and what would be a huge upset against higher level opponents. A full preview of the game can be read here: https://rwbtfc.co.uk/news/00005937. The game takes place at Melksham Town's Meads of Melksham Community Stadium, 2pm kick off. It promises to be an entertaining final - so please do come along and give Bassett your support! Prior to that Jonny Aitkenhead's side look to end the 2025-26 season on a high - and avenge a 4-0 home defeat against Fairford that they suffered back in August when they visit the Reds (3pm kick off). Both teams have experienced contrasting fortunes in the final run in. Bassett are winless in eight with a number of narrow defeats and two draws to their name in that spell. Fairford have been on a strong run but saw their playoff push came to an agonising end on Easter Monday as a dramatic, late defeat to Corsham Town extinguished their hopes of a postseason place. Both will give their all in this final derby of the season with bragging rights on the line ahead of the summer break. - Royal Wootton Bassett Town Men's and Women's First Team sides are proudly sponsored by Imagine Cruising.
