Trump says Iran deal possible despite U.S. naval blockade
Donald Trump said there is still “plenty of room” for a deal with Iran despite the ongoing U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports.
The comments came after the United States began enforcing a maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz following failed talks in Islamabad.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said a deal remains possible if Washington respects Iran’s rights and abandons what he described as unilateral demands.
Reports from Al Jazeera said the U.S. has deployed more than 15 warships near the Strait of Hormuz, where vessels linked to Iran could face interception or forced boarding if they resist.
Despite the blockade, at least one Iran-linked vessel reportedly managed to pass through the strait, highlighting challenges in enforcing the operation.
The blockade follows 21 hours of negotiations between U.S. and Iranian officials mediated by Pakistan, which ended without agreement.
Islamabad has urged both sides to uphold a fragile two-week ceasefire and continue diplomatic engagement. Trump’s remarks signal openness to negotiations, but ongoing military pressure and deep differences continue to cast uncertainty over prospects for a breakthrough.
