Pakistan launches fresh rocket strikes in eastern Afghanistan
Local sources said Pakistani forces carried out fresh rocket attacks on Monday evening targeting areas in Asadabad in Kunar Province, forcing residents to flee their homes.
According to the sources, the villages of Kochi, Shahbaz, and Koremar were hit in the latest strikes, though there are no confirmed reports of casualties so far.
The attacks follow similar rocket fire reported a day earlier in the Shali valley of Khas Kunar District, suggesting an intensifying pattern of cross-border shelling.
Authorities from the Taliban have not yet issued an official response to the new incidents. Residents said the renewed attacks caused panic, with many families fleeing to safer areas amid fears of further escalation along the border.
Cross-border tensions between Pakistan and Taliban have escalated in recent months, with Islamabad accusing militant groups of using Afghanistan territory for attacks, a claim denied by Taliban officials.
Diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, including talks held in Urumqi last week, ended without agreement, leaving core disputes unresolved.
The latest strikes highlight growing instability along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border, increasing risks for civilians living in frontline communities.
With diplomacy stalled and security concerns rising, the likelihood of further clashes remains high, raising fears of prolonged instability in the region.
