Autopsy scheduled after decomposed body found on Akamas coast
An autopsy is expected to be carried out on Thursday on the body of a man discovered on the coast of Akamas, as police continue efforts to establish his identity and determine the circumstances of death.
The body, found in an advanced state of decomposition, was located early on Monday morning by a 48-year-old man who was fishing in the area.
Police said the discovery was reported at around 5.45am.
Authorities confirmed that members of the Paphos police department and a port police unit were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The area was cordoned off and examined, with officers collecting evidence in accordance with standard procedures.
Police said the victim is a man of unknown identity and that investigations are ongoing to identify him.
They added that the possibility the body may belong to a person listed as missing is being considered.
A police statement said that “all prescribed procedures were followed” at the scene while forensic teams completed initial examinations.
Officials said the exact cause of death will be determined following the post-mortem examination.
