Career Opportunity: Senior Ice Technician

Job type: Salaried position from Sept 21, 2026 and ending April 18, 2027 – renewable annually

Compensation: $9,000.00 to $13,000.00 per sheet, based on experience and qualifications

Contract: The PCC is prepared to consider entering into a Contract for Ice Making Services

The Peterborough Curling Club (PCC) is now accepting applications for “Senior Ice Technician” for the 2026/27 season and beyond. Reporting to the Ice Director, the Senior Ice Technician is responsible for installing maintaining and removing 6 sheets of curling ice and is responsible to maintain and operate all ice-making equipment safely and effectively for the entire curling season. The successful candidate will work with a team of part time ice staff to provide high quality playing conditions and must be able to provide and schedule effective ice maintenance to meet the demands of busy daytime, evening and weekend curling activities.



The PCC is an active Club with over 500 members. It schedules up to 25 weekly draws, depending on the enrolment in various sectors, and hosts a number of annual weekend bonspiels. The Club is fully accessible to wheelchair athletes and has probably the largest section of wheelchair curlers in the province. It has a very successful junior program and also offers a Learn to Curl program that is quickly growing in popularity.

Qualifications:
Minimum Level 2 Ice Technician Certification or equivalent experience;
Ability to work with minimum direction;
Working knowledge of ice plant control systems;
Experience installing ice on a sand floor;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
Good planning and organizational skills;
Physical ability and experience to perform ice making and maintenance activities;
Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot ice and ice making equipment; and,
Experience with Munters 300 Dehumidifiers is an asset.

Major Responsibilities:
The Senior Ice Technician is responsible for the day-to-day ice operations ensuring high quality and safe playing conditions as well as establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with the Ice Director, Board of Directors, Ice staff and members.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Adhering to all PCC policies and procedures as well as any federal, provincial and municipal legislation and TSSA regulations relating to the safe operation of the ice plant and shed;

Level the sand floor, lead and schedule the ice plant start up and shutdown procedures with the Club’s consulting engineers, schedule ice surface painting, install ring and line logos, strings and removable hack installations;

Schedule and implement weekly ice maintenance including daily scraping, pebbling and nipping before regular league play and as required for bonspiels and other events, regular levelling floods/controlled melts as required (minimum twice a season);

Willingness to schedule practice times and accommodate draw changes as required;

Cleaning and vacuuming the areas surrounding the ice surface;

Daily equipment maintenance and record keeping including ice plant operating conditionsRecruiting, training and scheduling of assistant ice staff;

Regularly maintain and repair ice making equipment and tools;

Report monthly to the Ice Director on the condition of the ice shed, ice plant and ice maintenance equipment;

Perform mid-season major ice maintenance during Christmas holiday break;

Minor facilities maintenance and repair as needed both on and off the ice; and

Removal of ice, proper storage of rocks, rings, logos and equipment, facility clean up at the end of the season.
