Ford CEO Jim Farley's Unique 1972 DeTomaso Pantera Looking For a New Home
Ford CEO Jim Farley is a car person's car person. It's probably why he's said before that you'd have to pry the manual Mustang from his cold, dead hands. His 1972 DeTomaso Pantera, however, will apparently be much easier for the CEO to let go of. The car, listed for sale over on Bring a Trailer, is a very solid example with an interesting story behind it.
A Wisconsin seller is handling the transaction for Farley. He's probably busy running Ford. Speaking of the iconic car company, this Pantera has ties to the company that predate Farley's ownership (and perhaps were a reason behind the CEO's purchase). The car was actually bought by Ford originally, delivered to teh company's Auronutronic divison of Ford Aerospace. It was apparently used as a company pool vehicle, but Ford was likely also using the car for a bit of testing as well.

After a stint at Ford, the car passed to a private owner, who placed it in a car museum in Massachusetts. Then, the car went up for sale as the museum went bust in 2018. The car was repainted that same year, then crashed when a bidder ran out of grip, talent, or both during a test drive. Following repairs, the car was purchased by the Ford CEO in 2024. Farley set about doing what car guys do best: dumping money into an old car. Farley modified the intake, updated the wheels, added a new steering wheel, and fitted a new sound system.

The Pantera uses a Ford V8 engine, slung low behind the front seats. The iconic 351 Windsor V8 has its own history with the brand, having powered iconic models like the Bronco, Thunderbird, Torino, and Mustang. Of course, there's a little more Italian flair to the Pantera than in Ford's 1972 lineup. At least as of publishing, the Pantera is worth more than Farley paid for it just two years ago, and with that, he's succeeded in doing something most car enthusiasts are terrible at: making money. You can bid on (and maybe win) the Pantera at Bring a Trailer.
