'Pragmata' Debuts as One of the Best Video Games of 2026, According to Metacritic
Pragmata has been in development for quite some time. The game was announced and then very little was heard about the game. It resurfaced late last year, got an April release date, and then that date was moved forward. The game is finally out this week, and reviews are in, and it seems Capcom has yet another winner on its hands.
According to Metacritic, Pragmata is sitting at an impressive metascore of 86 after 87 critic reviews, just three points lower than Capcom's other massive release this year, Resident Evil Requiem, at the time of this writing.
Critics are praising the game's unique hacking-focused combat system, build variety, likable main characters, and classic "arcade-y" feel of the game. Reviewers are also taking note of the game's level design and the ability to return to almost every area of the game at any time. Some critics are pointing out shortcomings with the game's narrative and generic plot beats.
What might be even more impressive, in a year full of surprises already (like Crimson Desert and its seemingly never-ending string of updates), according to Metacritic's Best Games This Year list, Pragmata is sitting at number 10, just ahead of Timberborn and just behind Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.
With both a new entry in the long-running Resident Evil franchise and a new IP in Pragmata just a couple of months apart, Capcom seems to have found the winning formula for success and is seemingly capitalizing on years of stellar video game design experience.
Pragmata will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on Friday, April 17, 2026. A free demo is available now on all platforms.
