MAGA lawmaker booed out of town hall meeting
Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) faced hostile crowds at his third town hall of 2026 at Mahopac High School, where constituents booed and heckled him throughout the event, The Journal News reported.
Lawler defended President Donald Trump's Iran war, citing administration talking points about preventing Iranian nuclear weapons development.
When challenged by an audience member who called Trump, "a fraud, corrupt, and an incompetent psychopath," the crowd cheered.
The constituent demanded Lawler impeach Trump rather than simply disagreeing with him, accusing the Republican Party of enabling the president's actions. Lawler responded defensively, comparing the audience's behavior unfavorably to that of high school students and lecturing them to "act like an adult."
Security removed the vocal critic from the microphone and escorted him out.
Lawler, claiming to be among the few Republicans hosting town halls, struggled to defend his positions amid widespread constituent frustration with both Trump and Republican leadership.
