Aubrey Plaza Reflects On Decision To Have A Baby With Christopher Abbott: 'It Just Seems So Interesting'

Rumors have been swirling about Aubrey Plaza and her boyfriend Christopher Abbott, and the White Lotus star herself has finally confirmed the news: she is expecting her first baby!
In an upcoming episode of the Smartless podcast, Plaza told hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett that she is pregnant, per Page Six. “Well, there’s a baby inside of me,” she said, reiterating that she isn’t joking. “No, I said there is a baby inside of me right now.”
The Parks and Recreation star went on to explain how she found out about her pregnancy after she went to a doctor’s appointment with her dog. “Today was a big day,” she said on the podcast. “I went to the doctor’s today, and my dog also went to the doctor’s. And both of us — my dog’s getting a scan right now. I got a scan earlier. I’m not kidding. She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach. And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there.”
She revealed that she is “excited” about becoming a mom for the first time. “I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know?” Plaza continued, adding, “It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.”
Plaza, whose husband, Jeff Baena, died by suicide in January 2025, was first linked with her Black Bear co-star Abbott in July 2025. This is the first time Plaza has spoken about her pregnancy, but insiders say she is happy about it. “It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” a source told People on April 7, adding that “they feel very blessed.” At the time, Plaza’s rep confirmed the pregnancy gossip was true.
In Aug. 2025, gave on update on her mental to health to her Parks and Recreation co-star, Amy Poehler, on her Good Hang podcast. “Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you,” Plaza said. “Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m okay, but it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.”
