Regis Le Bris’ brutal Tottenham dig shows how low Spurs have dropped in the pecking order
Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has given a scathing assessment of Tottenham Hotspur as a team after his side registered a 1-0 win.
Even though Tottenham had dropped into the relegation zone ahead of the clash at the Stadium of Light, there was still plenty of optimism at the North London club ahead of Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge.
Reports indicated that the Spurs players had really taken to De Zerbi and his training methods, and many fans would have hoped to see the Italian kick off his spell with a decent result.
However, that was not to be as the Lilywhites fell to a 1-0 loss in the North East, putting them in major danger of relegation with just six league games left.
Regis Le Bris claims he was never worried about Tottenham hurting Sunderland
The pressure has now escalated on the North Londoners, who, despite showing some promise in the first period, failed to take their opportunities, only to be punished in the second period.
Le Bris has now declared that Tottenham Hotspur were not strong enough to beat his side, and insisted that he knew Sunderland would get their opportunities on the break if they remained focused at the back.
Speaking after his side’s 1-0 win, the Black Cats boss said (via CaughtOffside): “The opponent wasn’t strong enough to beat us. So, I wasn’t too worried. We knew that if we remained disciplined and hit them on the break, the opportunities would come. They have good individual players, but as a collective, they are struggling to find a rhythm. Today, we felt in control from the first whistle.”
Roberto De Zerbi disagrees with Le Bris on Spurs’ performance
However, the new Tottenham head coach had a completely different take on the game and felt that his side showed great spirit, especially in the first half.
De Zerbi insisted that Spurs did not deserve to lose against Sunderland, even though they may not have done enough to win the game.
The Tottenham head coach admitted, however, that his players are lacking in confidence at the moment, and declared that things will change after the Lilywhites win a game.
