WATCH: Lionsgate Unleashes 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' Official Trailer
May the odds be ever in Haymitch Abernathy's favor. Lionsgate shared the official trailer for its most anticipated release of the year, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Based on said trailer, it looks like we're in for a vibrantly colorful yet depressing good time. The dystopian sci-fi flick is an adaptation of Suzanne Collins' bestselling novel of the same name. Here, Katniss Everdeen's troubled mentor is a 16-year-old kid from District 12 who competes in the 50th Hunger Games, which is also the Second Quarter Quell.
Quarter Quells are special editions of the titular Games held every 25 years to mark the anniversary of the Capitol defeating the districts during the Dark Days. Instead of 12 tributes participating, there are now 48 lives on the line - two girls and two boys reaped from each district.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping stars Joseph Zada as Haymitch, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier, Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Billy Porter as Magno Stift, Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, and Ralph Fiennes as President Snow. Franchise veteran Francis Lawrence returns at the helm as director, with a screenplay by Billy Ray.
Lionsgate's last foray into the world of The Hunger Games was in 2023 with The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Starring Tom Blyth as a young Coriolanus Snow before he rose to power as the tyrannical president of Panem and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, the film adapts Collins' 2020 book of the same name.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters on Nov. 20, 2026. Before you go, check out the official trailer below.
