Teen girl killed, 3 others injured after stolen car crashed into a tree
A teenage girl was killed and three other teens were injured after a stolen car they were in crashed into a tree being followed by police early Monday morning in Chicago Lawn, police said.
Around 3:48 a.m., officers observed a Toyota Corolla speeding with no headlights, police said. Officers activated their emergency equipment and tried to follow the car. But after police lost sight of the car, the vehicle crashed into a tree in the 6900 block of South Kedzie Avenue, officials said. It is unclear how long police followed the car.
A victim between 15 and 17 years old was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A 16-year-old girl was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in serious condition with a head injury, and a 15-year-old girl was taken to Comer Children's with a broken arm in good condition, police said. A 16-year-old boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.
The Toyota was later determined to have been reported stolen.
The Chicago Police Department's major accidents investigation unit is reviewing the case.
