Minister Ben Phiri Attends IDT4M Steering Committee Meeting in Lilongwe
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Ben Phiri, on Wednesday attended the 3rd Steering Committee meeting of the Inclusive Digital Transformation for Malawi (IDT4M) at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC).
The meeting was co-chaired by Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation, Joseph Mathyola Mwanamvekha, and UNDP Resident Representative Fenella Frost.
The IDT4M initiative aims to bridge Malawi’s digital divide and promote a more inclusive, digitally empowered society.
Hon. Phiri joined fellow Cabinet ministers in discussions on strategies to ensure that digital services reach all communities, particularly in rural areas.
Other attendees included Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Roza Fatch Mbilizi; Minister of Information and Communications Technology Shadric Namalomba, who joined virtually; Minister of Homeland Security Peter Mukhito; Deputy Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Martha Ngwira; Malawi Electoral Commissioner Annabel Mtalimanja; senior government officials; EU representatives; ambassadors; and heads of diplomatic missions.
The Steering Committee meeting provided guidance on the implementation and progress of the IDT4M project, a joint initiative by the Government of Malawi and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
