As Japan celebrates its National Day, marking the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor, Ambassador Nomura Mamoru reflects on the deepening ties between Japan and Luxembourg. Having assumed his post in December 2025, Ambassador Nomura Mamoru is now preparing for a historic milestone—the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations in 2027, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Japan’s embassy in Luxembourg this year. “I am truly delighted to be posted here,” says Ambassador Nomura Mamoru. “Luxembourg is a country of remarkable natural beauty and a genuinely cosmopolitan spirit. It achieves a perfect equilibrium—a highly advanced economy led by the financial sector, yet retaining its historical charm and character.” “For me, one of the most significant tasks is to organize events commemorating the 100th anniversary in 2027,” explains Ambassador Nomura Mamoru. “Last year was particularly memorable due to the World Expo in Osaka. We were honored to welcome His Royal Highness the Grand Duke Henri, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Minister Yuriko Backes, along with parliamentary and economic delegations.
