Arkansas alum Amber Anning clocks world-leading 400m

FAYETTEVILLE – The second installment of the Wooo Pig Classic at the Randal Tyson Track Center featured a pair of world-leading sprints by Arkansas alum Amber Anning in the 400m as well as Paris Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred of St. Lucia in the 60m.

Arkansas senior Sanu Jallow-Lockhart delivered a unique double in setting a career best of 52.06 as the leading collegian in the 400m and then ran 4:40.21 in her mile debut.

The reigning World Indoor 400m champion from Great Britain, Anning posted a world-leading time of 50.51 in her first 400m of the season. That eclipsed the previous world leader of 51.00 set by Netherland’s Lieke Klaver recently.

Anning, who has an indoor best of 50.43 at the Tyson Track Center from 2024, cruised to victory with another alum, Britton Wilson, placing second in 51.46. This marked the first indoor race for Wilson since 2023 while she has competed outdoors in 2024 and 2025.

Another section of the 400m featured Razorback alums Nickisha Pryce and Rosey Effiong along with Jallow-Lockhart. Pryce topped the trio with a 51.61 season opener while Effiong finished in 51.88 and the 52.06 by Jallow-Lockhart bettered her previous indoor best of 53.52 from 2023 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

A trio of current Razorbacks raced in another 400m section with Saira Prince leading the way with a 52.86 while Arianna Sharpe posted a 53.65 and freshman Morgan Herbst set a career best of 53.93.

Alfred sped to a world-leading 7.04 in the 60m prelims and then improved to a sizzling 7.00 in the final. While setting a meet record, Alfred also produced the second fastest time ever at the Tyson Track Center behind a 6.98 for American Aleia Hobbs in 2023.

Leading the collegiate field behind Alfred were a trio of Razorbacks in Asia Thomas, Taejha Badal, and Ryan Jennings, who ran 7.37, 7.41, and 7.44.

Thomas and Badal later placed first and second in the 200m, claiming separate sections in season bests of 23.37 and 23.56.

Analisse Batista led an Arkansas 1-2-3-4 finish in the 800m with a meet record time of 2:03.18. Ainsley Erzen finished second in 2:03.36 while freshman Makenna Herbst placed third with an indoor career best of 2:03.41, which ranks No. 11 on the UA all-time list. A week after setting a mile PR, Madeleine Gear placed fourth in the 800m with a 2:08.90.

The previous meet record of 2:05.52 was set by Razorback Shafiqua Maloney in the 2021 debut of the Wooo Pig Classic. Maloney paced this race through 600m with splits of 29.55, 30.49 [1:00.04], 31.23 [1:31.27].

Arkansas alum Logan Jolly won the mile in a meet record of 4:39.37 to better the 4:39.87 set by Taylor Roe of Oklahoma State in 2021. Jallow-Lockhart placed second in 4:40.21 with teammates finishing 3-5-6 from the trio of Josphine Nwaura (4:44.00 PR), Sorcha Shiu (4:52.17 PR), and Bradley Weimer (4:52.76 PR).

Arkansas alum Destiny Huven won the 60m hurdles in 8.05 while Simone Ballard finished as the top collegian with a career best of 8.19 as runner-up. Prince finished third in 8.27 with Gabriella Cunningham fourth at 8.51 after clocking 8.46 in the prelims.

A career best height of 6-0.5 (1.84) won the high jump for Razorback newcomer Maria Isabel Arboleda Angulo as she is now equal No. 5 on the UA all-time list with Taliyah Brooks.

Hannah Estes equaled her season best of 13-1.5 (4.00) to place fourth in the pole vault and finish as the top collegian in the field.

Arkansas closed out the meet with a pair of 4 x 400m relays finishing first and third. The first group of Razorbacks clocked 3:36.21 with the foursome of Arianna Sharpe (53.79), Makenna Herbst (53.74), Morgan Herbst (54.32), and Abigail Campbell (54.36).

The second quartet ran 3:39.29 with a line-up of Kayla Davis (55.07), Rae-Anne Serville (53.47), Ainsley Erzen (54.84), and Faith Murphy (55.91).
