Tottenham submitted late January offer for £25m winger on five-game scoring streak
Tottenham Hotspur are one of two clubs that had offers turned down for a Premier League winger in the dying stages of the transfer window.
Rather than strengthening their attack in January, Spurs actually weakened it, selling Brennan Jonson to Crystal Palace and failing to bring in a replacement.
Tottenham fans were left frustrated by the club’s inability to reinforce their forward line, but the Lilywhites did reportedly make a late move for a winger who recently scored against them.
In the dying stages of the window, it emerged that Spurs were plotting a shock £25m offer for the West Ham winger, and it turns out they were not the only ones to do so.
Tottenham and Roma submitted late offers for Crysencio Summerville
The player in question is Crysencio Summerville, who has hit a rich vein of form over recent weeks, having scored four goals in his last four outings for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men, including a goal at N17 against Spurs.
A report in Voetbal International has now claimed that Tottenham were keen on adding Summerville to their squad and that they submitted a late offer to West Ham.
They were not the only ones to do so, with AS Roma also submitting a bid, with both clubs ‘attempting to pry’ the winger away from the London stadium before the transfer deadline.
However, both offers were turned down, with Hammers ‘adamant’ that they would not let their player leave.
Why Summerville did not leave amidst Spurs interest
Voetbal International explains that the East London club decided that they ‘desperately need Summerville’ to help them avoid getting relegated from the Premier League, which is why they were not receptive to the offers.
Additionally, the former Leeds man wanted regular minutes under his belt for the second half of the season, which he knew he would get at West Ham.
Summerville prioritised regular starts over the next few months as he is hoping to catch the eye of Ronald Koeman and force himself into the Netherlands squad for the World Cup.
