Only 8,000 Bottles of This Year's Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 18-Year Single Malt Were Made—and Its Got Whisky Fanatics Buzzing

The Bruichladdich Distillery is situated on the scenic shores of Loch Indall on the Scottish island of Islay. The brand is acclaimed for its single malt whiskies that expertly marry peaty smoke with salty seaside influence and energetic fruit-forward flavor notes. 

In 2024, Bruichladdich unveiled Port Charlotte 18-Year-Old, which was the brand’s oldest whisky to date. The expression returned in a slightly different form last year, and now a new edition is here. While each edition of Port Charlotte 18-Year-Old carries the same age statement, they're matured in different types of barrels, so you can expect an entirely new whisky with each release.

“Port Charlotte is an incredibly versatile spirit, and it can take on robust and heady flavors,” Bruichladdich Distillery’s master blender, Adam Hannett, tells Men’s Journal. “I wanted to look at casks that would impart these full-bodied flavors and complement the spirit’s peat smoke—while still capturing our distinctly floral and elegant distillery style.”

To do so, Bruichladdich matured the whisky in a combination of different types of barrels, including ones that previously held bourbon, sherry and/or French red wine. Like all Port Charlotte expressions, the whisky was distilled at the Bruichladdich Distillery and aged in Port Charlotte’s nearby warehouses.

“The wine casks selected hail from the Rhône Valley, known for its deep colors, firm tannins, and potential to age for many decades,” says Hannett. “These first-fill red wine casks add a distinct layer of dark fruits and aromatic spices to the final 18-year-old expression, which pairs beautifully with Port Charlotte’s signature peat smoke.”

The 2026 Port Charlotte 18 Year Old has a light amber hue reminiscent of butterscotch toffee. Upon pouring, a burst of tropical aromas wafts through the air, followed by subtle notes of campfire smoke, apricots, honeysuckle, and walnuts. The palate kicks off with decadent flavors of brown sugar and honeycomb, accented by tropical fruits, charred oak spice, and aged leather. There's a citrusy and vanilla-forward finish with Port Charlotte’s trademark peat smoke and maritime influence appearing at the very end.

Port Charlotte 18 Year Old Scotch Whisky Price & Availability

The 2026 edition of Port Charlotte 18 Year Old is currently rolling out to stores nationwide with a suggested retail price of $200 per 700 ml bottle. The whisky was bottled at cask strength (52.3 percent ABV) without chill filtration or any added color. Customers can also purchase the expression through Bruichladdich’s website in states where shipping is legal. Only 8,000 bottles of the whisky were produced, so be on the lookout now if you want to secure a bottle.
