Siena basketball thankful for Javion Ogunyemi
If Siena basketball fans want to curse their bad luck at losing junior guard Marquis Wright with a broken foot until February, they could also take the approach that things could be worse.
Just imagine if Troy native Javion Ogunyemi, who transferred to Boston University last summer, hadn't decided to come back for personal reasons.
While the Saints certainly miss Wright, Ogunyemi at least helps the Saints remain competitive entering Thursday's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game against Fairfield at Times Union Center.
In his most recent outing, Ogunyemi had a career-high 26 points and 11 rebounds in 53 minutes in the 92-87 triple-overtime loss at Manhattan on Monday night.
Siena is No. 2 in the conference with a plus-6.3 rebound margin per game, while Fairfield is 10th of 11 teams at minus-5.9 per contest.
Patsos compared Gilbert favorably with Monmouth star guard Justin Robinson, who's a strong candidate for MAAC Player of the Year thus far.
Patsos said Bisping, Long and Clareth could all draw the assignment of covering Gilbert, who had 23 points when Fairfield beat Siena 79-67 at Times Union Center last season.
Siena will try to shake off the tough loss to Manhattan, which was Siena's third overtime game of the season.
The Saints took Tuesday off from practice, only watching video and lifting.
