The Jonas Brothers Give Jason Kelce Advice on Working With Brother Travis Kelce & It Involves ‘a Healthy Amount of Bullying’
Working with a sibling isn’t easy. My brother once “accidentally” punched me in the face in the middle of a performance with our tae-kwon-do class — and I don’t think he tried very hard to avoid it. Now that retired NFL player Jason Kelce works closely with his brother Travis Kelce, he turned to the experts for advice: the Jonas Brothers! And what Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, and Kevin Jonas told him about sibling relationships is deeply funny (and relatable).
In an interview with Good Morning America, Jason connected with the band in a collaboration we didn’t know we needed. In the video chat, Jason opened up about doing a podcast with Travis called New Heights and asked, “You guys have been working together for decades, traveling together. What’s that been like?”
“It’s been fantastic,” Joe shared, adding, “For us, and I think it’s similar knowing just enough about you guys, it’s just a healthy amount of bullying,” making Kevin and Nick burst out laughing.
“But not enough to create chaos in the family group text,” he added. Kevin agreed, “Just enough. There’s a fine line,” he said, pinching his fingers together, as Nick nods along in agreement.
“Keeps everybody humble,” Jason added with a laugh.
“It’s a fair amount of bullying, but all in love,” Nick contributed.
Growing up with five siblings, and now having three boys myself, I can confirm this is true. Some bullying, teasing, and fighting is OK — and sometimes the only way to stay sane and keep you humble. But at the end of the day, as long as the undertone is one of love and respect, it’ll all be OK.
One thing that Jonas Brothers leave each other alone about, though? Parenting. Kevin, Nick, and Joe are all parents, but they don’t talk about raising kids. In an interview with SiriusXM in April 2023, Kevin shared, “We really don’t give each other advice about family. It’s kind of an unspoken rule. We just do our own thing. Do it your way.”
Nick called it “a really healthy thing that we never really spoke about,” adding, “The last thing you want to hear from your siblings is how to parent your child. I think we all sort of understand that and just say, ‘You do your thing. I’m just gonna show up and be Uncle Nick,’ and that’s how it goes.”
Tavis doesn’t have kids like his older brother Jason does, but maybe they’ll take this advice if they are ever in a similar boat. I know parenting rules are sacred and personal and not worth breaking up families over, so I wholeheartedly agree with this take. (I’d rather my brother punch me in the face again than tell me I’m raising my sons wrong, so take from that what you will.)
It may be hard working with a sibling, but we are so glad that both the Jonas Brothers and the Kelces do it!
