6 Texas State players suspended after postgame brawl vs. Louisiana
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Six Texas State players face suspensions following a postgame brawl Saturday against Louisiana, the Sun Belt Conference announced Monday.
The Ragin' Cajuns handed the Bobcats their fifth consecutive loss in SBC play 42-39. After the game, players from both teams were involved in two separate incidents, one on the field and the other in the tunnel leading to the locker rooms at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium in Lafayette, Louisiana.
SBC commissioner Keith Gil issued the following suspensions to players from both programs:
- Texas State
- Tymere Jackson, 2 games
- Khamari Terrett 1, game
- Justin DeLeon, 1 game
- Kyran Bourda, 1 game
- JP Deeter, 1 game
- Devarrick Woods, 1 game
- Louisiana
- Tyree Skipper, remainder of the season, including potential bowl game
- Courtline Flowers, 1 game
- Kody Jackson, 1 game
- Kailep Edwards, 1 game
- Collin Jacob, 1 game
- Evan Stroman, 1 game
- De'Antonio Lesueur, 1 game
Jackson is a starting defensive end for the Bobcats and will miss games against Southern Miss and Louisiana Monroe. DeLeon is a starting offensive lineman, and Terrell is a main contributor at cornerback. All players with 1-game suspensions will miss the game against Southern Miss.
Skipper, the player who received the harshest punishment from the SBC, is a starting safety for the Ragin' Cajuns.
"There is no place for this type of behavior in college football," Gil said. "This unfortunate postgame incident overshadowed what was a competitive regional rivalry game on the field."
Texas State athletic director Don Coryell said the school "supports the league's decision to hold individuals from both teams accountable for their actions."
"Our program takes this matter seriously and understands the importance of representing our university with intregrity, both on and off the field," Coryell's statement read. "We are committed to learning from this experience, strengthening our discipline, and ensuring that our actions consistently reflect the values of our institution and our community."
Texas State (3-6, 0-5 SBC) plays Southern Miss at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
