Razorbacks Square Off with Sooners on Wednesday
Arkansas volleyball has another SEC midweek match-up on deck as the Hogs travel to Norman, Okla. on Wednesday to take on the Sooners.
While it’s the first time the teams play each other this season, it’s not the first time that Arkansas has gotten a peek at OU’s squad. The Sooners came to town in early September as part of the Wooo Pig Invitational, in which Oklahoma lost to Tulsa 3-1 and defeated Cal Poly 3-1.
The Sooners are 12-8 overall and are currently ranked 10th in the SEC in their second season in the conference with a 4-6 record. One of those SEC wins came against No. 21 Missouri on Oct. 25, a reverse sweep in Columbia.
OU is particularly strong on defense, and the Sooners are the fifth-best blocking team in the SEC with 2.54 blocks per set. Junior middle blocker KJ Burgess provides much of that with 1.27 blocks per set, good for fifth in the SEC. Burgess is also a heavy hitter for the Sooners, she is first in the SEC and top five nationally in hitting percentage at .444.
Oklahoma is also among the top five in serving in the SEC with 1.58 aces per set. The effort is led by senior Emoni Bush, who is tallying 0.33 per set, tied for eighth in the conference.
Arkansas continues to look for its second SEC victory after opening the conference slate with a five-set victory over Ole Miss on Sept. 26. Since then, the Hogs have just one set win over the 16 they’ve played on the road in the SEC slate and have yet to win an away match this season.
Wednesday’s first serve is set for 6 p.m. in Norman and the match will be broadcast live on SEC Network.
