Cincinnati tops Kansas, 37-34
LAWRENCE (KSNT) - The Kansas Jayhawks drop to 3-2 (1-1 Big 12) on the season after losing to Cincinnati at home 37-34 on Saturday.
The 'Hawks started off with a bang, with a 93-yard touchdown pass from Jalon Daniels to Emmanuel Henderson Jr. to take a 7-0 lead.
The Bearcats were quick to respond, with a 2-yard touchdown run to end the first quarter tied 7-7. Cincinnati would take its first lead early in the second with a 29-yard field goal to make it 10-7.
Kansas and Laith Marjan would respond with a 27-yard field goal to tie the game once again.
A 10-yard touchdown from Cincinnati would see them retake the lead, 17-10.
Laith Marjan would strike again with a 35-yard field goal as the 'Hawks trail 17-13.
The Bearcats would close out the half with a field goal to extend their lead, 20-13.
A 24-yard touchdown pass from Daniels to Boden Groen would open up the scoring in the second half, as the game was tied again at 20-20.
Cincinnati would score on a 14-yard touchdown pass, but the Jayhawks offense would bounce back immediately. Daniels would launch a 75-yard touchdown pass to Henderson to tie the game at 27 a piece.
The Bearcats, once again, close out the quarter with a field goal to take the 30-27 lead.
Early in the fourth, Daniels would fumble the football on the run and Cincinnati would recover it at the 2 yard line.
Late in the game, Daniels would connect with Levi Wentz for a 6-yard touchdown to take a 34-30 lead.
With 29 seconds remaining in the game, Cincinnati's Tawee Walker get a 2-yard rushing touchdown to get the win, 37-34.
Next Saturday, the Jayhawks will head out to Orlando to take on UCF. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
