Mark Hamill Reveals a Cut Luke Skywalker Line From ‘Star Wars'

If you ask a Star Wars fan to name their favorite line from the series, they're likely to come up with a variety of lines from a number of different films. Some fans enjoy the original trilogy, while others prefer the newer films and the sequel trilogy.

Fans of a certain age may be partial to the original cast of characters, who will be remembered for their roles for generations.

One of the main actors from the original "Star Wars" film is seen as a pop culture icon for how he took over the series, but he recently revealed that his dialogue was altered from the original portrayal.

Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in several films, recently told The Hollywood Reporter about a line that was cut from the original movie. Hamill noted that the line was intended to be heard during a conversation between Han Solo and Luke Skywalker.

Luke Skywalker's Lost Conversation

“It’s just me and Han Solo. He says, when he gets toward the Death Star, ‘OK, that’s enough for me. We’re turning around. I’ve held up my side of the bargain'," Hamill told THR.

“Then I say, ‘But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilea or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed toward a large-scale assault.'"

Hamill said that he asked himself "who talks like this?" He noted that saying the line felt impossible while trying to work it into the conversation he had for the scene.

Hamill realized that he was set to have an uphill with George Lucas, who has a style of directing that doesn't call or allow for a great deal of improvisation.

"George Lucas is not an actor’s director in the sense that he doesn’t want to hear about backstory or motivation or all that,” Hamill said. “He cast actors who are so close to what he wants that he’s not going to have to do a lot of that.”

Hamill's Future with 'Star Wars'

Hamill previously said that his time was over with "Star Wars" after his appearance in "The Rise of Skywalker," but noted earlier this year that he hadn't been asked to return by anyone associated with the franchise.

In his estimation, the character of Luke Skywalker had his chance in the spotlight, and that those in charge of the series can work on different concepts.

“Once the Skywalker trilogy was over, it was a whole new era for them,” the actor told NBC's Willie Geist.  “They can do Westerns, mysteries, comedies, whodunits, anything within that realm of ‘Star Wars.’”

As for Hamill, we'll see if he chooses to reveal annother entry or cameo in an upcoming Star Wars film or movie. As one of the most iconic characters in franchise history, it's hard to believe that "Star Wars" could exist without Mark Hamill.
