Afghanistan Names Final Squad for Asian Futsal Championship Qualifiers
Afghanistan’s football federation has announced the final 15-man squad for the upcoming Asian Futsal Championship 2026 qualifiers, to be held in Indonesia.
The statement confirmed that key players such as Mohammad Javad Safri, Ali Ahmad Mohseni, Mehdi Nowruzi, Reza Hosseinpour, Jawad Heidari, Hamidreza Hosseini, Ali Amiri, Seyed Morteza Hosseini, and Farzad Mahmoudi are included.
Others named in the squad are Mohammad Moradi, Bahman Gorgij, Seyed Hossein Mousavi, Akbar Kazemi, Abbas Heidari, and Omid Ghanbari, all of whom are expected to play central roles.
Afghanistan has been drawn in Group H alongside Myanmar and the Maldives. The team will face the Maldives in its opening fixture on Saturday, followed by a clash against Myanmar next Wednesday.
According to tournament organizers, a total of 31 teams are competing in this round of qualifiers, divided into eight groups — seven groups of four teams and one group of three.
Afghanistan’s football federation said the players have undergone intensive training in recent weeks to improve match fitness and tactical awareness, ensuring the squad enters the qualifiers in peak condition.
Futsal in Afghanistan has gained traction in recent years, with analysts noting steady progress. Participation in the continental qualifiers is viewed as an opportunity to elevate the sport’s profile both regionally and at home.
