Measles exposure reported in Soho, Lower East Side

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – New Yorkers may have been exposed to measles in Soho and the Lower East Side, according to city health officials. 

The city is still investigating the possible exposure in Manhattan and contacting people who may have been exposed, according to the Health Department. 

So far this year, 13 measles cases have been confirmed in New York City. The city reported 14 measles cases in 2024, compared to just one case the previous year. 

“Measles cases are increasing globally and in the U.S., due to decreases in vaccination,” said a spokesperson for the Health Department. “The risk to the general public is low due to the high vaccination rates among New Yorkers.”  

Measles is a contagious illness that causes a fever and rash, health officials said. Symptoms include a cough, fever, runny nose, and red, watery eyes.
