Kirsten Dunst Takes a Bold Fashion 180 in This Ethereal, Cutout Mermaidcore Gown
Kirsten Dunst often opts for the sleek and chic, and rather dark looks on the red carpet. She always looks amazing in what she wears, and often nails the little black dress trend. Sometimes, she experiments with a backless number or a look with a white or blue-ish hue, but this time, she’s doing something rather daring (and ethereal).
In case you missed it, Dunst arrived at the Roofman world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in a look that no one could keep their eyes off of. You can see the photos below:
In the photo, we see Dunst looking like an ethereal goddess in this cutout, baby blue gown from the Valentino Resort 2026 collection, which was styled by Samantha McMillen. Along with the stunning, wrapped dress, we can see her rocking delicate jewelry from Sophie Bille Brahe, including a small bracelet and bow earrings.
We also see her blonde bob in soft curls, courtesy of hairstylist and photographer Owen Gould. Then, to top off the look, the Jumanji star had berry cheeks and a matching lip, from makeup artist Pati Dubroff, adding more dimension to the red carpet favorite ensemble.
The daring makeup? The cutouts? The mermaidcore-like look? This may be our favorite look of Dunst’s in a long time.
In a previous interview with W Magazine, Dunst gave rare details about her fashion sense, and who inspired it. She said, “I was lucky enough to grow up with Sofia [Coppola]. She always just looks so chic. I think I’ve always looked to certain women in my life. My mom always had fun style. But I’m also influenced a lot by movies. When I first saw Paris, Texas, I wanted to dress like Nastassja Kinski. Or, when I discovered Blondie, I wanted to dress like her. Same with Charlotte Rampling. The ’70s is my favorite era in terms of fashion.”
