Firefighters extinguish 3 brush fires in Rexford
REXFORD, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Several Saratoga County fire departments worked to extinguish multiple brush fires Monday afternoon on a farm on Appleton Road. Officials said the farmer started three separate brush fires in an attempt to clear brush, logs and debris from his property, but the flames got out of control.
Rexford Fire Chief Aaron Cote said the department was dispatched to the area for smoke conditions. At the scene, crews found three uncontrolled burns in the woods, each with flames 40 feet long by 40 feet wide and 40 feet high.
It reportedly took about 35 to 40 minutes for crews from Rexford, Ballston Lake, Burnt Hills and other assisting departments to get the fire under control. The fire chief said the farmer did not have a permit for a large burn.
No one was hurt. Chief Cote reminded the public that permits are legally required in order to do large burns, and campfires can only be 3 feet high and around 3 feet in length, width and diameter.
