When you are surrounded by exotic and wild animals every day, like kangaroos, giant tortoises, and crocodiles, you might think regular pets would be overlooked. But not for the Irwins! The Crocodile Hunter’s family loves any and all kinds of creatures, including their beloved family dog Stella. Bindi Irwin’s daughter Grace Warrior, 4, in particular has a special affinity for the pup. And a new photo of the duo show just how special their bond is.
“We love @stellairwinthepug so much!” Bindi’s mom (and Grace’s “Bunny”) Terri Irwin posted on Instagram yesterday, adding, “Happy #InternationalDogDay.” She shared pictures of herself and son Robert Irwin holding Stella, Bindi and her husband Chandler Powell holding Stella, and a picture of Stella reading from Bindi’s new children’s book, You Are a Wildlife Warrior.
Our favorite snap is on slide 3. Grace looks adorable in a pink dress with colorful butterflies, with her long brown hair hanging in loose waves around her shoulders. She is sitting on a park bench with pretty blue sky and tall grass behind her, and her adorable pug next to her. Grace is just glowing as she looks at her dog, who is facing the camera with his little tongue out. How adorable is that?
Grace has loved Stella her whole life, from hanging out with the pup upside down to using the dog as her little “pillow pet.” When she got older, she even was in charge of walking Stella at Australia Zoo!
In a previous interview with SheKnows, Bindi revealed the one thing her family does every day together: go on family walks. “In the mornings and the evenings, no matter what is happening during the day, we always go out on a family zoo walk,” she told us. They check on the animals and go exploring, which Bindi said is “very soothing.”
“No matter what has happened during the day, whether it’s a really fun and exciting day, or it’s a more challenging day, I really look forward to that time where I know I’m going to be with my family, I know that I’m going to turn off my phone, and I just enjoy the time and really try to let everything else go and be completely present,” Bindi continued. “Because sometimes we forget to do that because life is such a whirlwind. So if you can find that time to be utterly present with your family it really helps feed your soul. It’s just good for your heart. I love that time.”
