Albany man sentenced for sexually assaulting child
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Albany County District Attorney's Office announced on Friday that 34-year-old Quamel Grimes was sentenced to four and a half years in state prison in a sex crime case involving a minor. The Albany man pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal sex act.
Grimes admitted to sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl with whom he was familiar in February 2024. Judge William Little ordered him to serve 10 years of probation following his prison sentence, and Grimes will be added to the state sex offender registry.
Assistant District Attorney Alyssa Congdon said that Grimes' prison terms were accepted to limit additional testimony from the child victim. Congdon also read an impact statement written by the victim's mother ahead of the sentencing.
"I would never in a million years believe that Quamel, a person I look at as a brother, would violate my daughter for his sexual pleasure," the mother wrote. "This situation has damaged my daughter in ways she will never recover from. She is currently having nightmares and can’t sleep. I’m glad the truth is out. I hope he rots in hell."
Judge Little further issued an order of protection on behalf of the victim and her family.
