Newcastle Close In on £40m Deal for Villa’s Jacob Ramsey

Newcastle United are on the verge of completing a £40 million move for Aston Villa winger Jacob Ramsey, according to reports. The 24-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in the north east, with the transfer likely to be finalised before the Magpies’ Premier League opener against Villa on Saturday.

Ramsey, who has made 167 appearances for Villa, is being sold as the club look to ease financial pressures following a UEFA fine for breaching regulations. His departure will represent pure profit for Villa, who are walking a fine line with financial fair play rules. Unai Emery’s side are reportedly eyeing Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Asensio, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Villa Park last season, as a potential replacement.

For Newcastle, Ramsey’s arrival will provide a much-needed boost after what has been a frustrating transfer window. Eddie Howe’s side have secured the signings of Anthony Elanga, Malick Thiaw, and Aaron Ramsdale on loan, but missed out on Benjamin Šeško, who opted for Manchester United.
