Flash flood warnings in New Jersey: Here's where
NEW YORK (PIX11) — The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings in multiple New Jersey counties.
Thunderstorms and heavy rains are expected Sunday evening, which caused ground stops at all three major New York City airports.
Union, Richmond, Essex and Hudson counties are all under flash flood warnings until 9:15 p.m., according to the NWS.
NWS Doppler radar indicated heavy rainfall across the areas. Anywhere between 0.75 inches and 1.25 inches are expected within the hour, leaving highways, streets and low-lying areas vulnerable to flooding.
The NWS encourages all to stay safe if you are driving in these areas. "Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles," the warning reads.
Staten Island is also under a flash flood warning.
