New Iberia native on the road to New York Fashion week
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- This week's Acadiana Live featured Romey Roe, an upcoming fashion designer set to be featured in New York Fashion Week in September.
As a designer, Roe is known for dressing clients in tailored gowns and his creations have graced major runway shows across the U.S. and gained attention from celebrities like Heidi D'amelio. In his designs, Roe, brings a cultural perspective to his bespoke high-end designs with familiar themes from the south.
"The collection is called "Mon 'Amour,'" it's a French love letter, to you, to me and to the dream or passion to not give up. This is a celebration to that love for all of us." Roe said.
After many hours of hard work and team collaboration, Roe shared how he looks forward to showcasing the talent and culture Louisiana has to offer.
"Mostly it's just joy and happiness, I worked so hard." Roe said. "The emotions are so bottled up and I just can't wait to be there."
In his collection, Roe aims to showcase the various materials, like ostrich feathers and jewels, he utilized in his work to express the idea of "attainable luxury" for others. He shared how his collection evolved over time the many inspirations that influence his work.
"For me, I get inspiration from every person that I meet and life experiences overall." Roe said. "It's really about connecting with a person, especially a woman, to make them feel powerful and beautiful. And feel seen in something that they are wearing and to make sure that resonates in the design as well."
