Early morning crash in Lafayette claims driver's life
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A Youngsville driver was pronounced dead in a single-vehicle crash in Lafayette.
Today, around 2 a.m., the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 200 block of Southpark Road, in regard to a single-vehicle crash.
Officials said the investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling west bound when for unknown reasons, the driver left the north side of the roadway, struck a culvert, crossed over American Boulevard and struck a tree. The vehicle then became ingulfed in flames.
Officials said the driver was extracted from the vehicle by the Lafayette Fire Department and was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Officials identified the deceased as Blaze M. Lachappelle, 24, of Youngsville.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit.
