Funeral service for stepdaughter of Berkshire County DA

PITTSFIELD, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Jordan Elizabeth Labarre, the stepdaughter of Berkshire County District Attorney Timothy Shugrue, was tragically taken from her family and friends on July 7. Her burial took place on Friday in Pittsfield. 

Shugrue and his wife Joann are living out every parent’s worst nightmare, they laid their daughter to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery. She was the victim of an act of domestic violence. It happened in Colorado where she lived. 

Law enforcement responded to a shots fired call and heard active gunfire inside the residence upon arrival, where they found 32-year-old LaBarre dead. 

Shugrue thanked everyone involved in getting, “Jordan back home with honor, dignity and class.”

Dwyer Funeral Home held calling hours on Thursday. And on Friday Shugrue spoke at her church service.

“As a family we had so many incredible times together,” said Shugrue, describing vacations and other fun activities. “The dozens and dozens and dozens of trips to Gillette Stadium, Fenway Park.”

Governor Maura Healey and Congressman Richard Neal were among LaBarre’s family and friends as they filed out of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and participated in a procession to St. Joseph Cemetery.

They shared their favorite memories of her. She loved the outdoors. She was very athletic. Shugrue described her as a fiercely competitive person and extremely happy. But most of all?

“The best thing about Jordan was her relationship with her mother, Joann. We like to call her, sorry Joann, the ‘Smother’. They usually spoke four or five times in the day – every day – 365 days a year. They became twins and best friends. They were inseparable, despite the distance. Joann was lucky enough to just visit Jordan in Breckenridge in March of this year,” said Shugrue.

LaBarre moved to Breckenridge, Colorado after she graduated college in 2015. A burial vault displays the beautiful Rocky Mountains, where she loved to snowboard, according to her brother Joshua LaBarre.

The family played “At Your Window” by the band Trampled by Turtles at the cemetery before they signed the burial vault and said their final goodbyes. 

“We miss her but she will always be with us in our hearts and minds. If you see a butterfly, it's probably her spirit reaching out to lift you up. Let's remember her for the incredible person that she was,” said Shugrue, before he made one final promise. “We will get you justice.”
