Woman Suffocated Her Newborn Baby Girl, Tossed Her in the Garbage Can
Brianna Moore, 19, will go on trial July 22 on charges of aggravated manslaughter in the death of her baby girl whom Moore allegedly suffocated soon after giving birth in April. “Court documents say after Moore gave birth, she wrapped the baby in a towel and put her in a garbage can,” according to Zoe Hussain.
A medical examiner found the baby had died from “‘asphyxia due to compression of the torso with rib fractures,’” and had several broken ribs along her spine and small hemorrhages in her lungs,” Kylie Jones reported.
“During a previous court hearing, detectives said Moore admitted she might have been in denial of being pregnant,” according to Jones. “A judge previously said the details of this case are enough to disturb anyone. ‘It’s absolutely heartbreaking and she made a choice, so she’s going to have to face consequences for making the choice that she did,’” State Attorney Suzy Lopez said.

The New York Post’s Hussain explained the background, according to Hillsborough County prosecutors.
She had sent texts eight months earlier suggesting that killing a baby was her preferred method of birth control while discussing abortion and pills, according to newly released court records obtained by the Tampa Bay Times.
Moore allegedly gave birth in a University of Tampa bathroom before killing her baby.
“Hey man, sometimes you need a plan C,” Moore texted an unidentified man — who allegedly replied: “Plan A was condoms. Plan B was the pill. Plan C was to kill (the) kid.”
“Plan C is my favorite,” Moore replied, according to the texts found by investigators in her phone.
Jonah Dickstein, Moore’s attorney, did not dispute the texts, “but said they are being taken out of context by prosecutors and were a part of a general discussion about birth control and abortion,” according to Hussain. “The person she messaged was also not the father of her child, and she did not yet know she was pregnant, the attorney said.”
Sara Filips, of WFLA, reported that
Moore later told officials she held the baby tight to her body until she stopped crying. The baby was found to have several fractured ribs and a hemorrhage in her lungs, according to an autopsy report.
Moore was arrested on Oct. 18 on charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child, child neglect with great bodily harm, failure to report death, and unlawful storage and preservation of human remains.
Roommate hears disturbing sounds
Reporting for Fox 13 News, Nancy Gay explained
According to the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, Moore’s roommates reported hearing the sounds of a baby crying and finding blood in their shared bathroom at McKay Hall on April 27.
They called the University of Tampa Campus Safety, who sent an ambulance to check on Moore. The suspect denied being pregnant and told an officer the blood in the bathroom was from her period.
The next day, Moore’s roommates found a bloody towel inside the suspect’s trashcan and called police once again, according to the Hillsborough County state attorney.
Authorities say they found the dead newborn hidden inside a towel.
When Tampa police interviewed Moore that day, she admitted to delivering the baby in the bathroom and holding the baby tightly to her body until she stopped crying.
She told investigators she placed the baby in a towel and put her in the trashcan.
