Bystanders stop man from grabbing woman at NYC subway station
CYPRESS HILLS, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- Video circulating on social media shows the moment a group of bystanders jumped into action to help a woman at a Brooklyn subway station.
A 20-year-old woman was walking to the Norwood Av subway station on Sunday just before 9 a.m. when a 42-year-old man wearing white began following her to the platform of the Manhattan-bound J train, according to police.
Social media video captures the moment when police say the man grabbed the 20-year-old woman and tried to walk away with her. She's heard screaming for help, to which other commuters began yelling for the man to let her go.
The woman managed to get free and attempted to walk away, but the man lunges for her and briefly chases her down the platform, the video shows. Authorities say the man then pushed the 20-year-old to the ground and gets into a physical altercation with her.
At that moment, multiple bystanders are seen on video pulling the man off the woman and allowing her to run away while he's held to the ground.
Police say the woman suffered minor injuries but was treated on the scene by EMS.
The 42-year-old was arrested and charged with assault and harassment as well as criminal possession of a weapon for having a knife and a blackjack.
