Goodwood Here We Come!
What a fantastic Christmas period we had, not only did we strip down and rebuild our Cooper S, but the postman delivered a special letter: An invite from Lord March himself for us to attend the prestigious Goodwood 77th Members Meeting!
What glorious stationery they use as well – there was no mistaking what was inside the parchment envelope, sealed with the Goodwood crest on the back. Goodwood really do know how to do “attention to detail” and it was great delight, and more than a little relief it must be said, to be one of the chosen 30 best Mini’s in Europe, and perhaps the World, to be invited to enter. After all, it was one of our goals when we decided to restore the ’64 S after having been to The Goodwood Revival spectating and being hooked on the intoxicating event, that we could one day receive an invite.
Fast forward a few years and 3 years after we got our car back on the grid, THE invite arrived!
2019 is the 60th anniversary of the Mini itself, so there are a number of celebratory events planned this year. The first, and arguably the most eagerly awaited is Goodwood’s tribute, titled The Betty Richmond Trophy. Since the race was announced, there has been considerable interest from Pre 1966 Mini fraternity, so much so that the team at Goodwood decided to invite not just 30 prime examples, but 60!
The upshot of that is 2x qualifying sessions, 2x heats and a winner takes all 20 minute final. It should be epic to watch and even better to be part of.
So since then we’ve been busy at Sime Racing HQ in Scotland, as has our friends at Swiftune Engineering, rebuilding the 1293cc powerplant ready for some slipstreaming battles around the high speed aerodrome circuit.
Swiftune engine ready to be installed.
Engine in!
Testing takes place next week and there’s filming planned for the comprehensive Goodwood coverage of the event, online and on ITV4. We’ve also been busy with some behind the scenes footage we commissioned with our new team partner who know a thing or two about producing great digital content: Five Percent Digital Marketing Agency (https://www.wearefivepercent.com/) which you’ll be able to see over the coming weeks and months.
You can find out more information on the Goodwood website here: https://www.goodwood.com/grrc/event-coverage/members-meeting/2019/2/60-original-mini-race-cars-to-compete-at-the-77th-members-meeting/ Here you’ll find details of how to get to the event or follow online/on ITV4.
We believe we are the only Scottish entry, and probably even further travelled than some of our European friends, mileage wise, but we are well used to travelling up and down the country! We also hear fellow Scot David Coulthard is racing in a different race that weekend, so look forward to seeing him in action . We’ve got our flat caps looked out for the 6th and 7th of April and can’t wait, so watch this space and wish us luck!
