Albany pop-up vintage market focuses on sustainability, accessibility
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A group of young entrepreneurs are bringing their passion for fashion and community to downtown Albany. They’re behind Albany Bound Vintage, a pop-up market that’s quickly becoming a hub for local vendors and sustainable style.
The pop-up market includes vintage clothing, handmade home goods, and accessories, and is being held on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Watervliet Avenue in Albany. Owner Lorelai Jonyer said over 600 people RSVP'd for the event with many lined up before it even started.
“There’s not a lot of accessible events," said Jonyer. "A lot of them are very expensive or they’re a little bit exclusionary, but we try to be a community space for everybody. It’s about getting the community together, especially people who liked the 2000s, people in the queer community, just coming together."
Local small business owner Julianna Kuzmich said events like this help make sustainable fashion available to everyone.
“I think obviously finding low price items is super important because obviously everyone knows about Shein and fast fashion and how bad that is for the environment," said Kuzmich. "To have a similar sale that's just as quick, you know, you get your items right away, it’s the same low price. I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to shop vintage."
Albany Bound Vintage prioritizes accessibility for all, including a take-what-you-need clothing booth specifically for any trans-people in need. The market will be back in Albany on July 12 and August 2.
