LSU's Jay Johnson named National Coach of the Year
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- LSU head coach Jay Johnson was selected as the 2025 NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association after leading the Tigers to another College World Series win.
LSU Athletics said Johnson is the fastest coach to win more than one CWS championship at one school, one in 2023 and another in 2025.
The Tigers baseball team posted a 53-15 overall record and earned its eighth national title win after defeating the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in a two-game series. An average of 2.5 million viewers watched the championship series on ESPN.
"Johnson has a 507-249 (.671) record in 13 seasons as a college head coach, including a 190-77 (.712) mark in four seasons at LSU. He has a 43-16 (.729) record in NCAA Tournament games, including a 26-7 (.788) mark with the Tigers," the university said.
In 2023, Johnson was voted coach of the year by the American Baseball Coaches Association, Baseball America magazine, D1 Baseball.com, and Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
