First tropical storm of the Atlantic season today?
AUSTIN (KXAN) - With so much attention on the Pacific recently, the Atlantic is about to "enter the chat" with high odds of a tropical depression or storm by the end of Monday.
A cluster of showers and storms continues to organize several hundred miles east of Bermuda. Conditions are favorable for an slight increase in further development, which could be just enough to produce a tropical depression or storm by the end of the day.
By Tuesday, conditions will likely become unfavorable for further intensification. It is unlikely that this tropical disturbance will hit the land, but could potentially impact ocean traffic (cruises, cargo ships, etc.)
If we do get a named storm in the central Atlantic, it would be given the name 'Andrea'. It comes only a few days after June 20 -- the typical first day for a named storm.
Meanwhile in the Eastern Pacific, which the National Hurricane Center defines as east of 140° W, there is yet another disturbance with high odds of becoming stronger. Interesting to note that this disturbance is strengthening and becoming more organized in the same general region as storms Erick, Dalila and Cosme.
The next name on the list for the Eastern Pacific would be 'Flossie'.
