6/23/2025: Brutal heat & humidity
The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:
The combination of heat and humidity will be brutal today, leading to a very high risk for heat-related illness. High pressure in place will keep us mostly sunny for much of the day, so don't expect any relief from rain or shade from clouds.
Actual high temperatures will soar into the upper 90's for those in the Hudson Valley. Our forecast high of 97 in Albany would break the record for this day, set all the way back in the 1880's. With the humidity factored in, it could feel more like 100-105.
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for the Capital District, the Hudson Valley, and parts of the Taconic Hills. The National Weather Services advises that you drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Most of the rest of our region is under a Heat Advisory.
Staying very warm tonight, with most failing to drop below 70 - when temperatures stay that warm at night, if you don't have access to A/C, your body doesn't get a chance to recover from the stress it endures during the heat of the day. That makes it all the more important to take it easy today.
Another scorcher tomorrow, with record-tying heat in the forecast and "feels-like" temperatures again above 100 for many. A bit of a breeze will develop, offering the slightest bit of relief... but by no means will it feel nice out there.
The high pressure begins to break down by Wednesday, and we should see more clouds and a few afternoon thunderstorms as a result. That will knock high temperatures back down to the upper 80's.
Higher rain chances and lower temperatures for Thursday, Friday, and the weekend. It will still be muggy, but less intensely hot and humid than what we've going through right now. Stay cool!
