Man accused of kidnapping 5-year-old in Gloversville
GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A man is accused of kidnapping a 5-year-old in the city of Gloversville on Friday. Sergio Proietti faces multiple charges.
The Gloversville Police Department responded to a home in Gloversville on Friday with both Otsego County and Fulton County Child Protective Services just after 2:30 p.m. Police said that CPS was there to enforce an emergency temporary removal of a child order for a 5-year-old boy.
While on scene, officers reported that Proietti showed up asking what was going on and identified himself as a family friend. Police said they thought Proietti left the area, but instead he allegedly made his way into the home and abducted the child by taking him through the window.
Officers said they found out the child was missing when they went in the home to take custody of the child and the mother discovered her child was no longer home. State Police and the Fulton County Sheriff's Office assisted the Gloversville Police Department in an intensive search.
Charges
- Second-degree kidnapping
- Second-degree custodial interference
- Second-degree obstruction of governmental administration
- Endangering the welfare of a child
Police found Proietti and the child, who was unharmed, at 4:01 p.m. in Gloversville. Proietti was arraigned in Gloversville City Court and placed in the Fulton County Correctional Facility.
