Storm chances rise this week
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - Showers and thunderstorms brought heat relief to Acadiana Sunday afternoon. While a few showers will linger through the evening hours, all rain comes to an end overnight. Temperatures gradually fall into the mid 70s with high humidity as we head into Monday.
Monday will see temperatures rising fast, likely reaching 90 degrees around lunchtime. Storms begin to develop and become widespread during the afternoon hours. Storms may bring strong, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall. This rain will help to cool temperatures going into the evening hours.
In the tropics, we are following an area of low pressure in the open waters of the Atlantic east of the island of Bermuda. It now has a medium chance of becoming a tropical system within the next two days, but regardless of any development, it will stay far away from any land areas. The first name on the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season name list is Andrea.
Locally, this next week looks to be pretty unsettled. Showers and storms become widespread Tuesday and Wednesday across the area with periods of heavy rainfall. Temperatures may stay in the 80s if there is enough of cloud cover and rain. The increased rain chances continue through the end of the week and into next weekend.
