After $10 million gift, UAlbany names facility 'Tom and Mary Casey Stadium'
[...] the Albany couple didn't go to college.
UAlbany announced its athletic program received a $10 million donation from The Bernard and Millie Children's Foundation, set up by 1975 graduate William Duker, his wife, Sharon (Casey) Duker, and their son William "West" Duker.
In return, UAlbany named its 2-year-old football and soccer stadium Tom & Mary Casey Stadium after Sharon Duker's parents.
UAlbany athletic director Mark Benson, celebrating the one-year anniversary of his hiring, said the $10 million will be used to support the football stadium, fund athletic scholarships and improve other athletic facilities that include SEFCU Arena, home to the men's and women's basketball teams.
UAlbany football coach Greg Gattuso, in his second year, said the gift will help his efforts to build a championship team.
Benson noted the artificial turf field will still be called Bob Ford Field, after the head football coach who led the program from 1973 until his retirement in 2013.
Thomas Casey, Sharon Duker's brother, is a 1978 graduate who said he attended numerous UAlbany football and basketball games with his father.
