Albany mayor candidate discusses the issues with NEWS10
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- There will be a new mayor in the city of Albany come January of 2026. Kathy Sheehan is not running for re-election and four Democrats are trying to replace her.
One of them is Albany Common Council President Corey Ellis. He's been a member of the Common Council since 2006. The Democrat says too many city neighborhoods have been left behind. And that's when crime becomes a problem.
"You're only as strong as your weakest link," said Ellis. He adds, "if your weakest neighborhood is not strong enough, it hurts the other neighborhoods that are strong neighborhoods throughout the city of Albany."
Ellis wants to establish community centers in every neighborhood and to have quality of life officers. He sat down with NEWS10's K.C. Kantz to discuss the issues facing Albany.
