Israel arrests 13-year -old suspected of spying for Iran
Israel arrested a 13-year-old boy in Tel Aviv, suspecting him of spying for Iran after contact via Telegram.
A 13-year-old boy has been detained in Tel Aviv on suspicion of collaborating with Iranian intelligence agents, according to The Jerusalem Post. The arrest was carried out by Israeli police in coordination with Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency.
The investigation revealed that Iranian operatives contacted the teenager via Telegram and asked him to photograph Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system. While the boy admitted receiving such instructions, he reportedly did not follow through with the task.
According to Israeli authorities, the operatives offered the minor small sums of money in exchange for completing several assignments. The minor, whose identity remains confidential due to his age, is currently under house arrest, and his parents have been informed of the legal proceedings.
Ynet News reported earlier that the same teenager had been approached through encrypted communication platforms and instructed to perform tasks within Tel Aviv. These revelations have raised concerns about the use of social media and messaging apps to recruit vulnerable individuals for espionage.
This case is part of a broader trend, as Israeli intelligence agencies have detained several individuals in recent months for alleged espionage and sabotage activities linked to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Officials warn that Iran’s intelligence apparatus continues to exploit civilians and technology to gather sensitive information.
Israeli security experts view this case as a disturbing example of how foreign actors are attempting to involve minors in intelligence operations. Authorities are now considering stronger cyber-monitoring measures to detect and prevent such exploitation through social platforms.
As tensions between Israel and Iran remain high, this incident underscores the evolving nature of modern espionage, where state actors increasingly use digital tools to target unsuspecting individuals—even children—for strategic purposes.
