Streamer Renews The Studio
Fans of industry satire, long tracking shots, and tense jazz percussion have cause to celebrate today. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s sitcom, The Studio, has been renewed by Apple TV+ for a second season. In the show, Rogen plays Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of fictional movie studio Continental, whose struggle to balance his ego, love of cinema, and commercial responsibilities causes him to spiral into constant fits of anxiety that are palpable through the screen. It is, by all indications, a critical and an audience hit, so the decision to renew it was likely less anxiety-inducing for the Apple TV+ executives who undertook it.
“We’re thrilled to be making a second season of The Studio,” Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg said in a statement accompanying the announcement on May 6. “We’re looking forward to taking the lived experience of making season one and immediately putting it into season two, then repeating that loop for ten more seasons. And, we’re excited to keep all our industry friends and colleagues guessing as to when one of their personal stories will stream on Apple TV+.” We’re personally grateful for Apple’s decision to renew the show because it guarantees we’ll get to learn how Remick’s artistically vital Kool-Aid movie performs at the box office.
