J.B. Scott's party celebrates rock 'n' roll
Legendary nightclub throwing a reunion party Ever since Birbiglia started a Facebook page in remembrance of the club it's called JB Scott's : Rock n' Roll in Albany, NY in 2009, Jacobs says, people have been jonesing for a reunion. Blotto, Fear of Strangers (formerly the Units), Ernie Williams Band featuring Joe Mele of the J.B. Scott's House Band, Penny Knight Band, The Lazers, Charlie Smith Blues Band, The Last Conspirators, and Alison Jacobs and Matt Mirabile. Greg Haymes, lead singer of Blotto and longtime music writer (including for the Times Union), says that J.B. Scott's in its day was definitely "the hot spot." In addition to its long string of great touring bands, he says, two things made J.B. Scott's special: J.B. Scott's held only 900 people, and the stage offered them a better view than they got at other clubs, Haymes says. Other musicians who played there include Bryan Adams, B-52s, The Band, Pat Benatar, Chick Corea, David Crosby, Tim Curry, Al Di Meola, The English Beat, Maynard Ferguson, Foghat, the Go-Go's, John Lee Hooker, Freddie Hubbard, Iggy Pop, Joan Jett, Judas Priest, John McLaughlin, Meat Loaf, Pat Metheny, Annie Lenox, Nils Lofgren, Plasmatics, Todd Rundgren, Squeeze, Thin Lizzy, George Thorogood, Pat Travers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Edgar Winter and Johnny Winter.
